Forest Crossen, author of "The Switzerland Trail of America" (published 1962) and the series "Western Yesterdays" (published 1963-1979) moved to Boulder with his family in 1923 and graduated from Boulder High School. Speas, Sam, 1901-1981

Samuel F. "Sam" Speas was born in Colo. in 1901. His father worked for the railroad and Speas, who developed a lifelong interest in the railroads, also began work as a fireman on the Colorado and Southern Railway in 1921. He went on to become an engineer (1940) before retiring in 1967. Speas was also active in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. His daughter, the author Margaret Coel, helped compile her father's memories for his book, "Goin' Railroading" (1985). Speas died in 1981. ...
